About Town

After a brief but hard rain the skies cleared up and we were able to enjoy the rest of our walk through the city center. Here you can see our guests and my wife standing in front of one of the old fortifications of the city wall. We had to explain several times why a city would need thick, thick wall for protection. In our modern, American, society it is difficult to imagine a time when Knights, true horse-mounted Calvary, and Bowmen were a nation's fighting force.

It is difficult to tell from this picture but we are just outside the Zamek Królewski (King's Castle). The castle is not original however, because the original structure was basically destroyed along with most of the rest of old town Warsaw during WWII.

In looking for information about the Warsaw King's Castle I came across this listing of castles and palaces in Poland: www.Castles.Info. It's an interesting read although the English is not great.

Hello! You don't know me & I feel sort of silly writing on your blog. I used to babysit for Noelle, Amber, Jennifer & Chris ('hired' by Kathy & Craig) back in the mid 70's when I lived in L.A. & the Cahow's & my family were in Rolling Hills ward. I re-connected with Noelle in 2004 after not seeing her since she was about 10, I think. I guess you could say I never got over moving to Louisiana in 1977 & missing "my" kids who I adored as my own!

Anyhoo, I read your exchange with Scott about "Dubya" & Sarah Palin, etc. I can SO relate!!! I was a Hillary supporter & then a major Obama supporter. I'm scared to death of the woman who shoots animals from helicopters! But my stepmother (who married my dad last year & moved to Baton Rouge after living entire life in Utah) & I have really been going at it, teehee. She drove me nuts with her "Flush Hillary" & "Shoot Obama" comments. My brother in Hawaii & my baby sister in Ohio both have anti-Obama blogs! My sister visited recently with her "NoBama" sticker prominently on the back of her mini-van. Thankfully, my baby brother in Seattle is HUGELY pro-Obama. I can take all the hating with a grain of salt now...since we WON!!

Nice to "meet you!" Love the pix!

No need to feel silly! On the contrary, thank you very much for posting on my blog. Everyone is welcome here. Thanks for the compliment too, I hope you check back in the future to see some more photos.

Oh Politics...The Millers and extended families (Cahows, McEuens, Garnicas etc) can be a bit militant in their conservative views but in the end it IS just politics. I hear a lot of the "Shoot Obama" stuff but thankfully these particular families would never be sick/crazy enough to do anything. Unfortunately I can not vouch for the rest of America. We'll see.

But yes, for now, we won!

Im looking forward to seeing three or four new Supreme Court appointments. "Wildly Liberal" would not be the greatest choice but perhaps "Progressive" would be nice. Someone who knows how to use a computer or Blackberry for example!

I just hope I did not alienate Noelle when I told her my feelings about Sarah Palin. (Yikes!)

I had told Noelle early on that I was a Hillary supporter. She said several months ago in an e-mail that she was sort of resigned to Obama becoming president.
I hope Noelle will "forgive" me for my political views! I voted Republican for many years until I became disabled & my priorities changed in a big way!

Even after almost 5 years of e-mailing Noelle & Amber (I only met Bridget & Chelsea twice, when they were 2 weeks old & 2 years old & one year & 3 years old!) & gazing in awe at photos of themselves & their lovely children, I still think of them as the adorable children I fell in love with & never forgot all those years ago! :o)

Yeah! I'm with you as far as the Supreme Court! I'm pretty sure John Paul Stevens will feel it is safe to retire now! (I love him, btw) And if Ruth Bader Ginsburg's health takes a turn for the worst, she will feel safe leaving it in Obama's hands (as will I!) If we are so BLESSED to have Barack Obama for 2 terms, just think of what might happen with the Supreme Court!
I am so delighted that my girl Hillary will be Secretary of State. Woo Hoo! Great "consolation" prize! I just hope she won't regret giving up her Senate seat!!!

    Happy Thanksgiving!!!
