Saunton Surfs

Okay, okay, enought political stuff. Here is a photo of surfers in Saunton. Saunton is located in the south west and is a north facing beach. It was pretty funny riding through because it had the feel of Hermosa or Manhattan Beach, complete with VW buses, but is in the UK! The surf was not that impressive but there were loads of people out. Also, it was the hottest week of the summer and about 90% of the guys out had full suits and booties - the water is cold cold cold!

I guess the surf is pretty crappy most of the time as this really funny report I found indicates:

MON 25th SEPT - 6.35am - 1ft - Very small, but still clean and still just about rideable with light onshore westerly sea breezes - Will update if any changes occur.

Humm, 1ft and "just about rideable". Sweet.

Get your war on

The comics of David Rees crack me up and can be found here. Especially because, like the one above, they seem to be as good at predicting the future as many other, more holy, documents.
Humm.

Why did you people vote for him?

Dartmoor Ponys

So these guys run free across Dartmoor National Park in Devon. They are a specific breed and have been in the area for many years. Wikipedia naturally has more information here.

I passed several herds and actually left the park not having stopped to photograph any. I was looking for a pre-historic monument and decided to go back and search again. The monument was never found but I did park near a group of these ponys to look over the map. They were extreamly friendly with several of them coming up to me and my motorcycle to give us a closer inspection. The one in the bottom photo actually tried to eat my real indicator! Another tried to get a tast of my map, my riding jacket, and my arm! He didn't bite really hard, it was more of a nibble.

A few more from Land's End

Here are a few more photos from Land's End. I guess it wasn't totally true that its not nice down there, these pictures show some impressive coast line. As I said it was sunny and clear but very windy.

Lands End and John O'Groats

I managed to get to the extreme ends of the UK having visited both Land's End in Cornwall and John O'Groats in Scotland. Neither place was particularly nice or interesting but was more of a moral victory. Land's End was sunny but windy while John O'Groats was both windy and rainy. You can tell the wind by the white caps on the water in both pictures. Wikipedia once again comes through with a description of these places here.

Butterfly at Maiden Castle

Shot this little guy while visiting Maiden Castle which is near Dorchester in the south west. The castle is actually just the defensive mounds and a few ruined footings. No walls, towers, etc...The view from the top is wonderful though.

Welsh is a different language...

Humm, I learned this when I looked at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency website (DVLA - the UK version of the DMV). There is a full Welsh version of the site here. In Wales most of the road signs are in both english and welsh. Difficult to follow at high speeds but there you go.

Jump Rope Video

This has nothing to do with me or photography but I think its really cool.
